Django review :SPOILERS: and Tom and Jerry.

Ok while it is still fresh in my mind, I shall type what i thought of it here... BTW I'm not gonna edit this.

It was 3 HOURS LONG.

now before i start, let me put in an FYI.
1) THEY USE THE WORD 'NIGGER' A LOT TO EMPHASIS HOW RACIST IT WAS BACK THEN. THAT DOES NOT GIVE ANYONE AN EXCUSE TO CALL ANYONE THAT WORD. IT WAS WRONG THEN, AND IT IS WRONG TODAY.
2) In defense of Tarantino, and to everyone freaking out over the use of the word "nigger" in the movie, TO NOT USE THE WORD WOULD BE THE SAME AS DENYING THE RACISM EXISTED. OK? OK.

the opening sequence was cool. it was like a really old movie from way back in the say.. like when Rambo was filmed.

The beginning when the "dentist" rescued Django and the other slaves i thought it was great. it showed that not all the white people were horrible. and when he taught Django to read and he was teaching him words, i thought it was very cute. i kept thinking "aww he cares about his education and literacy!"
i especially liked the way Django mounted his horse and how everyone was making such a big deal out of it. i think i remember freaking out too because i knew "oh shit he's not allowed to do that given the time period and such" but then as the movie progresses, u get used to it. (reflection of the way society has adapted to it perhaps by making the audience feel that way?) i noticed transition of music went from old blues/folk to rap. symbolic of the fight for rights?
Still near the beginning, the dentist let him pick out his own clothes. aww...

into the movie, the plantation owners wear white pillow cases that look like KKK hats... and arguing if they should be wearing it because, for one, they cant see. and two, they can't breathe. but villain number 1 was insistent and was like "but it's very symbolic if we wear it"... Tarantino poking fun at the KKK? LOL. love the way he did that. i mean they DO WEAR pillowcases over top of their heads.
and that last bit when the dentist knew they were gonna get ambushed and decided to kill the lot.. that was epic.

halfway into the movie you're introduced to Leonardo's character.
hold on a sec, let me just "squee" about this man for a second.

Leonardo DiCaprio, I've watched all the movies you've ever been in from when I was a little girl! Romeo and Juliet (for English class), What's eating Gilbert Grape (for family studies class), Titanic (to translate into Vietnamese for my mom), Inception, Revolutionary Road (also for English class), Blood Diamond (for Hollywood&History class) just to name a few! And now this movie... You are an amazing, experienced, and flexible actor. You have always been a part of my life some way or another, and I respect you so much as an actor, and as a person for what you are doing to save the Antarctic, so if I appear biased in this review and praise you of your character way too much, it is because I absolutely adore you and I wholeheartedly believe you deserve a throne to be worshipped on!

OK back to what i was saying. His character was so bloody scary and absolutely disgusting that i shrank back in my seat so many times. there was this one scene where he handed a hammer to his fighter to bash in the opponents head... and one scene where he let the dogs eat a black man who attempted to run.
I HATE HIM. HOLY!!
I remember specifically this one scene that keeps playing in my head where he takes the skull of a deceased servant, and used an 1850's medical equipment .. a SAW, to saw off a portion of the skull. i am not going to spoil the rest because you need to see it and it is just way to scary for me to recall all the details.
But holy, he did such a great job as a villain! and his death was just so different than the rest of the character's deaths. everyone died in their own pool of blood and there was blood splattering everywhere all along the walls... but his remained clean. i loved the way his blood stained the white flower on his suit.

Tarantino even does a little cameo.. but they blew him up. haha.. his signature.
Samuel L Jackson.. oh man don't get me started. He was funny... but it was almost kind of sad the way his character was treating everyone else... and he dies and explosive death.

I'm not going to say anymore. GO SEE IT.

afterwards i went home and watched Tom and Jerry. it looked like ignorant bliss for white folk. These are old cartoons that i watched so they had racial jokes and stereotyping and... well i felt horrible for laughing at the stereotyping after watching Django .__.
The movie portrayed them being whipped, branded, etcetc what have you, so to be exposed to a cartoon like this... i mean it was part of my childhood and the gags were funny! But at the same time... ehh....

I'm glad Warner Brothers and MGM put in a disclaimer that the cartoon was a "product of their time and that it was unacceptable." (they stereotyped Asian people too but i thought those were funny lol)

anyway i thought it was appropriate for me to talk about this since it's black history month.
